Interesting the post-revolution governments let the murals stand. Once NYC's empire state building had copper-golden-amber toned Diego Rivera murals capturing the power of-by-for the people - but they were too powerful for us, so taken away. I hope just hidden not painted over. I will find out if they were saved or maybe even restored.Tita Theodoranoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1592981899485571181.post-43856793853298529592016-05-02T09:30:32.871-05:002016-05-02T09:30:32.871-05:00A devaating trip through the chaos of violence and...A devaating trip through the chaos of violence and a few gatherings of survivors who still have a vision that humans can create better. Did the artists' political focus come from a tradition of socially aware art? Guernica? or from each other's commitment at the time? Cycles of violence. Spanish slaughter of Aztec priests (and long before that probably Aztec slaughter of Mayans)… Aztec revenge followed by Spaniards revenge. What has changed? Each slaughterer today still justifies the killing of enemies and survivors of collateral damage still grieve with the words of the poet. Africans fleeing Boko Haram, Yemenis fleeing Saudi and Houthi bombs, Iraqis and Afghans fleeing our bombs and drones, everyone fleeing ISIS, and Syrians fleeing everyone. The poem reminds me that along with our potential to slaughter, we have the potential for deep compassion - if we could only find a way to connect with that compassion when we feel justified to act on our fears, greed, rage or need for revenge.Cyberscribblerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02114252768531673851noreply@blogger.com
